As I learn pieces of Basco's native language, I'll store them here.

fnnvit ch gatrear. Noun - literally, "char-brightener." Meaning, 'the one by whom you will prove yourself'. It is believed that an individual's strength, and thus worth, can only be proven by pitting oneself against the highest of challenges, and not only that, but a challenge that is one's perfect match in every way: a theoretically unbeatable obstacle. Once found, the relentless clash of the individual and their obstacle, their fnnvit ch gatrear, is believed to ultimately reveal one's true soul and spark.

fn'ach aylli. Literally, "blessed ruination." A description of the beauty of the act of destroying things, or of the things destroyed. Though it has contextual meaning and could be used in a sentence, it's usually used as an epithet.

tch'ilai venc iinkhyt. An insult. Closest translation of meaning would be, "You puny maggot." Literally, it's closer to... "Dismissable tiny weakling," a phrase which sounds like milktoast in English but, in the context of Basco's extremely violent, violence-revering culture, is an extremely deep insult.

khii'tei. Noun - of pure clarity or simplicity. Similar to the English phrase, "crystal clear", or when used as an epithet, "Isn't it obvious?"

Our favorite privateer, garbed in his usual in red, green, and rather more crochet than is generally considered acceptable when in public, is slumped partially onto the bartop of a small, very weathered establishment of many years and many fine liquors. The regulars here are in general more scruffy but of just as ill-repute as our privateer, though they all share in common the desire to be left to their lonesomes.

The bar is located at a galactic coordinate in convenient range of several major thoroughfares, or as close to 'thoroughfares' as it gets for the buccaneering types who frequent the outer rim, skirting the edges of Zangyack-controlled space. Those edges have been fraying faster and faster these days, as political movement near the Empire's Core shook loose some of the less-loyal and smaller planets and planetary coalitions.

This small cluster of civilization is little more than a supply depot offering food, fuel, sex and drink to any willing to pay the asking prices; and those prices are invariably inflated by lack of competition and distance from the Core, both of which this place has in spades.

Over a muddled drink that cost him thirty Zagins more than he would pay for a comparable glass of clear liquor forty standard cycles older, Basco peers at the reflection of his own face in the rows of faceted glass and luci-crystal decanters lined up in front of the bar's mirrored back wall.

"I can't see myself in this thing," he mutters, slamming back the end of his sour drink with little enjoyment. The barkeep, thin from a preference not to suffer eating the food he serves for his customers, pours Basco another with a sidelong glance.

"Far from a clear reflection, kid," he says. "My bottles aren't meant for helping your vanity."

"Not the bottles," Basco mutters. Inbetween the throat of one flask and the column of a much taller, midori-bright bottle, there's a brightly-lit, clear space of mirror in which his two eyes look steadily back at him. His mouth's reflection is twisted by the curve of the angled glass just a few fingers' width below.

He stares at himself a few moments longer, trying to suss out anything familiar or significant. But there's nothing, and he slams another shot before lying his head down on the bartop. Sleep sounds excellent at this point.

Because I play an ever-increasing number of Bascos, and will be playing them with this same journal, please note this shorthand:

Canon Basco: Canon standard, or close to. Pretty cracked. Also still pretty sane. Loves playing mind games.
Notes: Never died - I'm retconning his evaporation as a last ditch escape method because there was already a zombie!Basco running about the Mushverse (which we took care of).
Will be using mainly knit and feathers icons.

Akaki Basco: Speculatively developed upon my own theories/racebuilding/worldbuilding backstory for Basco's existence. Never betrayed Marvelous. Begins from a BedNinja post with hakaseheart and is spiraling upward and outward from there, in multiple threads. ♥
Notes: Still printing. Will be using mainly tunic & headband icons, of which I will happily take donations.

Kaijin Basco: Fucking sadistic, creepy, crazy, and as kinked out as I let him talk me into. Right now involved with Joe in a making-it-up-as-we-go mostly-canon-ish explicityface line.
Notes: This guy is very likely to trigger a whole mess of triggers. He will always be very clearly labeled & warning labeled. Mostly uses monster icons or the korilakkuma icon, because I find that hilarious.
